Lake Maggiore Express: discover the lake by train

Take the Centovalli train to reach the Swiss shore of Lake Maggiore and enjoy the amazing views (mountain landscapes and views of the lake) before embarking on a boat to discover the Borromean Islands.

1st Day: arrive in Stresa, settle in the Primavera hotel (in the pedestrian area, very close to the departure point of the island ferries)

2nd Day: trip from Stresa to Domodossola by train. The adventure will start with a beautiful train journey on the "Centovalli Little Train”, a bridge between Italy and Switzerland. Crossing Val Vigezzo and Centovalli will take you to a different lake shore, in Locarno.  A stop in the valley, to visit S. Maria Maggiore  (and the Chimney Sweepers’ Museum) or Re (and the incredible Sanctuary of the Madonna of Blood) can be arranged.
The last part of the outing is scheduled for about 4 pm.  From Locarno, a ferry will take you along the coast to the Borromean Gulf and back to Stresa.

3rd Day: enjoy a rich breakfast before the visit to the Borromean Islands. The ferries will take you to Isola Bella (“Beautiful Island”) with its beautiful baroque Palace and Italian gardens, to Isola pescatori (“Fishermen’s Isle”) with the traditional fishermen’s village and Isola Madre (“Mother Island”), with an English garden. The return is scheduled for late in the afternoon.
