Learn to navigate in Italy’s largest wilderness area
Experience a different side of Lake Maggiore with an outdoor adventure in Val Grande National Park, Italy’s largest wilderness area.
During this short break, you will learn the basic principles of mountain navigation using a topographic map and compass, while discovering useful techniques for moving through a natural environment with greater confidence and awareness.
The programme combines an elegant evening on Isola Bella with an engaging outdoor activity, offering the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Stresa and Dinner on Isola Bella
Arrive in Stresa and check in to your hotel.
Spend the afternoon exploring the lakeside promenade and historic centre, or travel to Isola Bella to visit the magnificent Borromeo Palace and its famous Italian gardens.
In the evening, board a shared private motorboat to the island and enjoy dinner at Ristolounge Elvezia, overlooking Lake Maggiore.
Return to Stresa by boat after dinner and overnight.
Day 2 – Orienteering in Val Grande National Park
After breakfast and check-out, travel independently to the meeting point arranged with your nature guide.
During the activity, you will learn how to:
- read a topographic map;
- use a compass correctly;
- identify natural landmarks;
- choose a direction and navigate across the terrain;
- understand basic mountain safety and self-rescue principles;
- prepare a simple emergency shelter.
The experience takes place in an authentic natural setting and provides a practical, enjoyable introduction to mountain navigation and responsible outdoor exploration.
